Happy New Year Twisted Monkeys! (Are we still allowed to say that?) Hope your 2018 has started off full of greatness. We’ve definitely started with some crazy cold weather! Sure it’s a pain in the butt, but how beautiful was it to ease into the year with some snow days, allowing us to slow down and reflect. I definitely took some time to think about last year’s good, bad, beautiful and ugly, and what I would like to carry into the new year with me, as well as the things I need to let go of…notice, I said need.

When we come from a place of truth and love, we will see that the things we want and the things we need are very different. So this year, I decided that I needed to get back to writing. Before taking on The Twisted Monkey, when my daughter was very young, I used to write a blog about parenting and organic living. Things got a little busy when I took on managing role at the studio back in 2012 and I soon realized I needed to let go of some things. I always looked at blogging as a want, so I stopped. When I took an even bigger leap and became co-owner of the studio in 2015, I was definitely met with some challenges and juggling more responsibilities. These past few years I have experienced so many life adventures that have helped me grow and feel grounded in who I am today. So as I reflected on where they have led me to in the present, I realized that I NEED to blog again. Writing has always been my outlet and what has been missing for me.  So this year, The Stretch Gazette will include a little personal blurb from me, with an intention to connect with all the wonderful members that walk through our doors, along with anyone who happens to come across my posts. This month, in traditional January fashion, I thought it only appropriate to share some thoughts on New Year’s resolutions. Over the years, it seems resolutions have grown to get a bad rap. What once was a way to start the year with goals and aspirations, has become jokes and memes about diets, joining the gym, and how we’ll fail our resolutions by Jan. 2nd

So, as we approach the end of the first month of the new year, I thought it a good time to mention the idea of setting intentions instead (just like we do in yoga class!) and reflect on what ours might be for 2018.

So, what is your aim or purpose? What are you working on achieving this year? And are your intentions coming from a positive place of growth, love for yourself and others, and do they speak your truth? Maybe you’re still a little stuck on what your resolutions or intentions are for this year. Well, lucky for you, I came across this great list of ideas to help you out…

20-Intentions-List This Winter season, we hope you will find the time to stop in to the studio, step on your mat, and come back to your intentions. Our schedule has something for everyone and we have some exciting workshops and events happening just about every weekend. If you are a member of our studio and are not receiving our monthly email newsletter, please check your spam folder or sign up for our mailchimp service by setting up a studio account with us through Glofox. If you’ve never been to our studio before and live locally, we hope you’ll find the time to pay us a visit. 75 minute Master Class w/Ashley Gardner

Did you miss last month’s opportunity to sample Surfset? Well we’re giving you another chance to experience some SUP (stand up paddle) fitness and yoga on land. This 75 min class will take us through some official Surfset Fitness moves, as well some yoga poses, while standing on the RipSurfer X (as seen on the hit show Shark Tank!) Strengthen, balance, tone, and burn calories, while having so much fun…you won’t even realize you’re working out!

Yin Yoga Workshop w/Justine Bacon

Yin is the latest Yoga buzz word, but do you really know what it is and why it’s so important to a well-balanced practice? Join us in this 2 hour workshop, where we will spend a brief period discussing the practice of Yin, its principles and benefits…we will then dive right in!
Yin is a cooling practice that gently stretches the more plastic-like layers of your body, such as: ligaments, tendons, fascia, joints and even bone!
Who is it good for? Everyone! This is a very complimentary practice to anyone with an active lifestyle…so join us!

  • Happy December! The holiday season is upon us and it’s a busy time at the studio. Thank you for all your patience and support during our transition to the new registration system for the Main Level Studio. If you have not done so already, we urge you to please upload our free “Glofox” app so you may take advantage of our special Holiday Sale: 5 for $25! (Sorry, NOT valid for Hot Yoga.) Please rest assured that we will continue accepting class cards, as we transfer credits to your new online account. To facilitate this and save time, please download the app before visiting the studio. No smartphone? No problem. Visit our updated website and check out our new look and new Class Schedule: Click Here. Please note: There are some class cancellations and changes during the holiday season as we plan to come back in the New Year with a bigger and better schedule! The studio will be closed on Dec. 24th and 25th, as well as Dec. 31st and Jan 1st.
  • Holiday Events! We have some fun activities lined up for you this month:
  1. Yoga with a Twist! “Yoga in a Bottle-Yoga with a Twist!” with Daniella is back for a special holiday edition on Saturday, Dec. 3rd at 4:30pm. We are just about sold out so you’ll want to sign up now! See our Workshops & Events page for info and to register.   
  2. Holiday Acro Jam! Kimmy and Rob are back with an awesome winter wind up & down session for you! Join in on 2 hours of pure fun with fellow yogis and explore beginner AcroYoga poses and flows. Grab a friend to play with this Holiday Season, try something new. Beginner-friendly, all levels encouraged. The more the merrier! Sunday, Dec. 18th at 6pm. See our Workshops & Events page for info and to register.
  3. Annual Holiday Party! We invite all of our members to our annual Holiday Party on Saturday, Dec. 10th at 7pm. Food will be provided, but please BYOB. Details can be found at the studio.
  • Holiday Yoga Gift Ideas! Have you seen our new Studio Tees and Tanks? Stop by the Main Studio Lobby and check out our new purple tees ($10) and black tanks ($15) on sale now. We also have some yoga-inspired bracelets on sale from My Twisted Trinkets. (Prices vary.) How about the gift of yoga? We have brand new gift certificates for sale in increments of $10, $25 (limited time), $40 and $80. Please note: Tees, Tanks, Trinkets and Certificates must be purchased by cash or check only.
  • Holiday Drive! Through the month of December we will be collecting gently used Yoga Mats to donate to the Transformation Yoga Project. TYP serves people impacted by trauma, addiction, or incarceration through trauma-sensitive, mindfulness-based yoga. Your used mat could help make a difference in someone’s life. A labeled box will be located near the front entrance for donations. Namaste.
  • Studio Yoga Mats! Just a reminder that  yoga mats are for the use of brand new members on their first visit. We ask that all students who try a class and plan to continue the practice of yoga, invest in their own mat. This way you may choose the correct size and style to suit your individual needs. The Hot Yoga studio provides black yoga mats that are already placed down on the floor. You may place your own yoga mat on top for extra support. Please wipe down all mats after use. Do not roll up any studio mats that may still be wet, as this can become unsanitary. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
  • Lost and Found! If you have left behind a water bottle, yoga mat or other personal item, please make sure to check the yoga studio. Items not claimed by the end of each month will be donated or recycled. The lost and found is located in the hot yoga ladies’ changing room or see an instructor. Thank you.

  • Happy September! Many of you may be experiencing back-to-school madness. Therefore, we are making it easier for you to unwind and get your yoga in by adding several new classes and time slots for Fall. Make sure to check out our current schedule!   • Yoga in the Park! Park season has officially ended. We hope to bring it back next Spring! Thank you to all who helped raise donations to benefit One Orlando and PAWS.
  • Full Moon Yoga! Our September Full Moon Yoga class will take place on Friday, September 16th at 7:30pm at the studio. The Harvest Moon is one of the most beautiful and powerful of the year. Please visit the Full Moon Yoga schedule on our Website. Proceeds will benefit Matter of Trust.
  • Free Classes! This month we are offering TWO FREE classes:
  1. First, Join us on Sat, Sept. 17th at 12pm for a Health & Wellness class with Cindy Corabi, Holistic Health & Wellness Coach. If you suffer from bloating, gas, low energy, weight gain, headaches, joint pain, fatigue, etc., you must learn to rid inflammation, get alkaline and detox your body! Come for a free workshop to learn how to feel younger and healthy again! On Sat, Sept. 24th, 2pm-3:15pm, join us for a free jam session of Be FREE partner FUN! Grab a buddy, significant other, even one of your kids, or come solo and see what Partner Yoga is all about! This will be a free sneak peek into the Acro CommUNITY Yoga Class Series. Come on out!
  • Fall Equinox Yoga Mala! Join us on Thurs, Sept. 22nd at 7pm, as we once again attempt (and succeed!) to get through 108 sun salutations. After our successful Summer Solstice 108 sun salutation celebration in June, we are now happy to offer these Yoga Malas every season! More info can be found on our 108 Yoga Mala page.

Punch cards for the Main Level Studio will no longer be sold after September, but they will still be accepted until the end of the year. At the end of this month, we will introduce new discount packages and class registration available through a new online software program. We will still continue to accept cash payments in the studio.   • Fall Drive! One of our instructors, Stephanie, has spear-headed a Fall Drive to benefit the Montgomery County SPCA. Look for a box in the lobby where you can place donations. Some of the items they are looking for include: towels, blankets, sheets, comforters, unopened bags of dog and cat food, canned dog and cat food, cat litter & litter boxes, etc. Our SPCA Fall drive will run through October. Thank you for your support!
  • Save the date! Registration for our very first Yoga Retreat is now open. Spots are limited and going fast! If you missed our first Retreat Info meeting, we will be holding another one on Sun, Sept. 11th at 11:15am, immediately following the Intro to Yoga class.   • Happy August! Can it really be the last full moth of Summer already?! Hope you all enjoy the final few weeks before the rush of back-to-school and Fall activities begins. Please note that we will be closed on Monday, September 5th for Labor Day. Our Summer schedule is going strong and will run through most of Sept.   • Yoga in the Park! Due to the hot Summer temps, yoga at Rockledge Park on Saturdays will be moving up to 9am beginning Aug. 6th. Classes will run through the rest of Summer and a final date will be announced in Sept. We are happy to share that we raised close to $300 in July for oneorlando.org! This month’s donations will benefit PAWS. Thank you to all who have supported us so far!
  • Full Moon Yoga! Our August Full Moon Yoga class will take place on Thursday, August 18th at 8:30pm at Rockledge Park. (If inclement weather, class will be held at the studio.) If you haven’t checked out our new Full Moon Yoga Schedule, please visit our website. Proceeds will benefit Matter of Trust.
  • Playing with Gravity! Join us on Saturday, Aug. 27th for a 2 hour workshop with Kimmy & Rob focused on Partner PLAY! Grab a friend or sign up solo to explore how gravity plays a huge part in yoga itself, and how that translates into our bodies. Come to get grounded with gravity and learn through Play!   • Yoga in the Park! Join us at Rockledge Park on Saturdays at 10am all Summer long. This is a donation-based class with a $5-$10 suggested minimum cash drop-in. (Class Cards may not be used.) Street parking and entrance are on Rockledge Ave. (corner of Robbins Ave.) Stop at the gazebo to check-in. Please bring your own yoga mat and water. All Levels welcomed. This month’s donations will benefit oneorlando.org. Thank you to all who have joined us so far!

  • Seasonal Sun Salutes! Thank you to all who came out to our Summer Solstice, Full Moon, and International Yoga Day Celebration. It was a magical night. Congrats to all those who completed the full 108 Sun Salutations and a big THANK YOU to all those who donated to oneorlando.org. We raised almost $150! Stay tuned for the Fall Equinox as we hope to host an 108 Sun Salutation Yoga Mala for every season. Details coming soon.
  • Full Moon Yoga! We will also be hosting special Full Moon Yoga evening classes once a month. The next Full Moon is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, July 19th. Stay tuned for details on our website.

  • Happy June and Happy Father’s Day to all of the loving men in our lives…thank you for all you do! As we head into Summer, we know many of you will be taking some much needed R&R time. The Twisted Monkey wants to make it easy for you to keep up with your yoga practice. Please make sure to check out the changes we’ve made to the Summer Class Schedule for the Main Level Studio. (Hot Yoga class schedule will remain the same.) Sneak peek below:
  • Schedule Changes/Cancellations. Intro to Yoga & Meditation with Sarah will be moving from Saturday mornings to Monday evenings this Summer. Kettle Fusion on Sunday, Sunrise Flow on Tuesday, and Vinyasa on Thursday mornings will all be taking a break this Summer. Warm Flow Yoga on Wednesday will be moving up to 5:30pm-6:30pm with no class on July 6th. All other classes should remain the same. See Class Schedule  for details.
  • Yoga in the Park is back! Join us at Rockledge Park on Saturdays at 10am beginning June 25th. This will be a donation-based class with a $5-$10 suggested cash drop-in. Class Cards may not be used. All Levels. Enter at Rockledge Ave. and Robbins Ave. and please bring your own yoga mat and water.
  • Yoga for Kids. We still have a few spots left for our Summer 5-week series of Yoga for Kids (ages 6yrs-10yrs) with Sarah on Sundays at 11:15am. Classes begin on June 19th. (For those who take our Hot Yoga at 11am, feel free to drop your little one off a few minutes early…we’ll keep on eye on them.) Cost is $45 for 5 sessions. Since classes begin on Father’s Day, we welcome dad to join his little one on this special day, free of charge!   • Surfset Fitness & Yoga! A reminder that our next Surfset Workshop will take place on Sunday, June 5th, 1-3pm. If you registered online you do not need to bring confirmation. Your name will be on the list. We have closed registration but there is still 1 spot available! If you are interested please email us at TwistedMonkeyYoga@gmail.com. If you missed this round, please stay tuned as we will be offering another workshop soon! We are also happy to offer a “5 for 4” Surfset series this Summer.   • FREE Sun Salutation Class! On Monday, June 20th we will gather at 7:15pm to celebrate the Summer Solstice, the Full Moon, and International Yoga Day…so much light and energy in one evening! We will welcome the season and honor these special events by participating in as many Sun Salutations as we can get in…the ultimate goal being 108! Do what you can. Stay as long as you are able. It’s sure to be a special evening.
  • SAVE THE DATE! The Twisted Monkey is beyond excited to announce our very first Yoga Retreat! Join us this Fall on November 18th -20th for a 3 day weekend designed to help us get ready for the busy holiday season. Details and registration will be available soon!  
  • Lost and Found! If you are missing a water bottle or yoga mat, please make sure to check the yoga studio. There is a lost water bottle collection downstairs in the hot yoga ladies’ changing room. Any yoga mats or water bottles not claimed before the end of the month will be recycled. Thank you.
